Privacy mode

A compliance option that stores your customers' contact details in an unreadable form, for merchants who cannot have raw customer data held by a third party.

Privacy mode is a compliance option for merchants who cannot have their customers' raw contact details, like name, email, or phone number, stored in readable form by a third party. Once it is on, your customers' raw contact details are never stored readable in Zappush; the platform keeps only an unreadable, one-way reference it uses to recognize a returning shopper and to keep your reporting accurate.

Who it is for

Privacy mode is built for compliance-driven businesses: healthcare, finance, and any merchant operating under a strict data-protection regime such as GDPR in the EU or a similar regional requirement. If your business is not under that kind of obligation, you do not need it, and Zappush works the same either way.

Privacy mode is not self-serve. To turn it on, contact support. We walk you through what changes for your store before anything is enabled.

What you get

With privacy mode on, your customers' raw contact details are never stored in readable form. Zappush still recognizes a returning shopper, still counts their orders, and still reports on their behavior; it just does so without ever holding their name, email, or phone number as plain text.

What changes for you

Turning privacy mode on comes with real trade-offs. Understand these before you ask support to enable it:

  • Messaging connectors turn off. Any connector that sends a message directly to a customer, such as email or SMS marketing, cannot work once their contact details are unreadable, so those connectors are switched off and cannot be re-enabled while privacy mode is on.
  • The dashboard shows a stable reference, not a readable name or email. Shopper profiles, orders, and search across your dashboard show a consistent reference for each customer instead of their name or email address. You can still search for a specific customer, follow their order history, and see their behavior; you just will not see their contact details as plain text.
  • Turning it on is not reversible for data captured while it is on. Once privacy mode is enabled, any customer data captured from that point forward stays unreadable; it cannot later be converted back to a readable name, email, or phone number.

How to turn it on

Privacy mode is enabled by our support team, not from a self-serve toggle. Contact support to start the conversation; we will confirm it is the right fit for your business and walk you through the trade-offs above before switching it on.
